Shane’s Law #6

Once again, I found my boots leading me through the swinging doors of The Lone Star Saloon.

The Lone Star was established in 1856 by retired gunslinger Jack “Lucky” Malone. It offered weary travelers and local cowhands a place to unwind, share stories, and enjoy a stiff drink.

But as I well knew, all types of folks gathered here who threatened to disrupt this oasis of peace here in the heart of bustling Sagebrush, Texas.

Floyd, the barman, was serving up a glass of amber liquor to a customer as I sidled up.

“Afternoon, Floyd,” I started, greeting him with a tip of the hat. “Got a minute?”

Floyd wasn’t normally one to withhold information, but I could tell from the way he avoided my gaze that he was anxious about seeing me here.

I decided a bit of flattery wouldn’t hurt to lighten the mood.

“I like the shirt you’re wearing today. You been saving up your pennies for a new wardrobe?” I said with a lilt in my voice.

Secure an Advantage

Challenge 8 & 5 = Miss

Floyd furrowed his brow as our eyes met. He looked more confused than anything, and turned away, searching for a glass to wipe down.

I cleared my throat and changed the subject, “Er, I’ll have a rye whiskey.”

Floyd served it up and nodded curtly, “Marshal.”

Compel
Heart 2 + Marshal 1 + Action 3 = 6
Challenge 6 & 3 = Weak Hit
+1 Momentum & successful persuasion, with the caveat of a favor in return

I set my badge on the counter, as if to say “That’s right, I am a Marshal,” and lowered my voice.

“Okay look, I’ve got some questions about what went down with our mutual ‘friend’ last night,” I said.

Floyd sighed, and frowned. He truly must have seen this coming as soon as I walked through the door.

Which meant he likely knew something about Blackhawk and his whereabouts.
