Climbing up over the ledge and to my feet, I dusted off my pants and clapped Brogah on the shoulder, “Fine work, my friend. Let’s never do it again.”
We laughed, then turned to gaze once more upon the hovering golden spear bathed in a glimmering light from some unknown location above.
I approached the dais and carefully reached out to wrap my fingers around the spear’s haft. The light dimmed and I was surprised at how light the weapon was.
I gave it a few test whirls and jabs, pleasantly surprised to find that the balance was excellent.
“Excellent, now let’s find our way out of here,” I announced after lashing the spear across my chest and back.

As if in response, we heard a loud CLANG as Brogah’s grappling hook fell from the stalactite and hit a rock or ledge on the way down.
That wasn’t alarming in and of itself, but the cause of the grappling hook losing its grip soon became clear as the entire chamber we inhabited began to quake.
In moments the shaking escalated to the point where the stalactites began to shake loose, falling and breaking off large chunks of the ledge we were now standing on.
“Look!” shouted Brogah, pointing to a large crevice in the wall behind the spear’s dais, as it widened enough for a man to fit through, emanating the cool light of day.

With no time to waste and the ground beneath us quickly crumbling into the pit, we raced toward the crevice and flung ourselves through.
We both landed in a field on the other side of a stone wall as the rumbling grew louder, and then all of a sudden everything except the wind in the grass was silent.
“Fine job, fellas! You made it out alive, and with Vidarna’s Fury, to boot,” a familiar voice piped up behind us.
The Firstborn knight stood in front of the now caved-in exit of Valengarde Keep, his arms folded and long ears twitching, with a mischevious grin splitting his face.
